Responder Holistic Wellness Program
Posted by Julie D. Mayo
We created our Responder Holistic Wellness Program to contribute to the mental health and holistic wellness of first responders, and to help first responder employers and organizations so that they can increase productivity, prevent burnout, prevent post-traumatic stress and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), increase career longevity, and improve responder’s quality of life.
It's no different than experiencing an emergency while in midflight. You need to put your oxygen mask on first, before you can assist others. Otherwise you cannot perform at your best and risk going down before you can assist others.
First responders deal with work related stressors on a daily basis. When these stresses accumulate, it can compromise their health and make it more difficult for responders to function at 100 percent performance and capacity.
These stressors can accumulate and lead to more severe symptoms and disorders such as stress, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This puts first responders at risk of acquiring other injuries during incidents.
Addressing these stressors before they accumulate enables first responders to help others during emergencies while performing at 100 percent capacity. It also helps to ensure first responder safety so that they do not go down while in the process of helping others.
